Membral is a Chrome extension and optional cloud service that syncs your AI conversations from ChatGPT, Claude.ai, and Grok into a single place. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What data we collect

Account information

When you sign up for cloud sync, we collect your email address and display name via Supabase Auth.

Conversation data

If you opt into cloud sync, the extension sends your AI conversation data to our servers. This includes conversation titles, messages, timestamps, and metadata from ChatGPT, Claude.ai, and Grok.

Usage analytics

We collect aggregated usage metrics (e.g. total conversations synced, sync frequency) to improve the service. We do not track individual conversation content for analytics purposes.

How we use your data

  • Personal storage — your conversations are stored so you can search, browse, and export them.
  • Summaries & topic extraction — we use GPT-4o-mini to generate conversation summaries and extract topics.
  • Semantic search — we generate embeddings so you can search conversations by meaning, not just keywords.
  • We never train on your data — your conversations are never used to train AI models, period.

Data storage and security

  • Data is stored in Supabase (Postgres) with Row-Level Security enabled — only you can access your own data.
  • All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
  • The cloud service is hosted on Vercel (US).

Data sharing

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not share your data with third parties.
  • OpenAI processes conversation text solely for generating summaries and embeddings via their API. OpenAI does not train on data sent through their API.

Your rights

Whether you are covered by GDPR, CCPA, or neither, we extend these rights to all users:

  • Access — export all your data at any time.
  • Deletion — delete your account and all associated data.
  • Portability — export your conversations as JSON.
  • Opt out — use the self-hosted version to keep all data on your own machine.

Cookies

  • The cloud service uses authentication cookies only (Supabase Auth). No tracking cookies.
  • The Chrome extension reads cookies from AI platforms (claude.ai, chatgpt.com, grok.com) solely for API authentication. These cookies are never sent to or stored on our servers.

Chrome extension specifics

  • The extension reads cookies from claude.ai, chatgpt.com, and grok.com solely to authenticate with their internal APIs.
  • No browsing history is collected.
  • Conversation data stays local on your machine unless you explicitly opt into cloud sync by logging in.
  • The extension source code is open source under the MIT license.
